About the role
Ansvar Australia, who are proudly part of Benefact Group, are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our Melbourne or Adelaide office.
The Senior Underwriter is responsible for the personal underwriting of medium to complex risks within our portfolios, with a primary focus on new business development and strategic market engagement.
The primary objective of this role is the underwriting of new accounts in accordance with Ansvar guidelines and core sectors within the delegated underwriting authority. This function directly supports the Company's strategy for profitable business growth while maintaining underwriting excellence. The Senior Underwriter will also provide essential support for the renewal process to ensure portfolio stability and retention.
A fundamental aspect of this role involves developing and nurturing business from an allocated panel of Independent and Global brokers. The Senior Underwriter must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain strong broker relationships with persistence and professional skill in pursuing target accounts. Additionally, they will be responsible for creating and executing targeted business plans to maximise opportunities within their assigned broker panel.
Within Ansvar, the Senior Underwriter serves as a technical resource and mentor, coaching and developing less experienced staff in both technical underwriting principles and interpersonal skills. The position requires someone who can demonstrate enthusiasm for our core markets while making sound underwriting decisions, both independently and in collaboration with colleagues and management.

What you'll be doing
- Maintain and develop key broker relationships through consistent visitation, ensuring that customer service is provided on high level.
- Support the implementation of the Ansvar’s Pricing Strategy and referral philosophy.
- Personal underwriting of predominant New Business and certain renewal policies, schemes and endorsements with more complex risks within the region’s portfolio
- Develop and execute new business opportunities interacting with existing and new brokers. This includes a systematic approach to broker networking and detailed visitation plan.
- Assist the Region Manager and Product Team in the underwriting and management of Commercial & Corporate policies/portfolio of business
What you'll need to have
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant insurance experience
- Strong working knowledge of property underwriting and understanding of manuscript and agreed policy wordings
- Ability to plan and action portfolio and business specific activities including coordination of activities with other lines of business and departments
- Demonstrated ability to build positive and constructive working relationships with key stakeholders.
