As Head of Technical Casualty Claims you will be responsible for the technical development of people, policy, and process across our Casualty teams.

Key responsibilities
- Leadership - Delivering inspiring technical leadership across the whole of claims, directly leading the Technical Casualty Claims Specialists, taking responsibility for, and managing their motivation, development, and performance.
- Operational – Responsible for delivery of exceptional customer experience whilst containing costs.
- Relationships - Identify and pursue opportunities to develop Customer relationships, working with the Underwriting team to develop, implement and monitor Customer plans, including revenue generation targets and marketing initiatives, management of suppliers of choice contribute, challenge, and provide an alternative view with regards to the development and growth of the business.
- Claims Handling - Responsible for delivering technical claims handling standards and strategy across the Department, including case reserving policy. Providing technical direction and leadership for external professionals, including loss adjusters and solicitors.
- Technical Referral Point - Provide advice and direction across all claims, obtaining or directing external advice where necessary.
- Research & Development – Actively participate and contribute to market forums, researching and delivery of new procedures and techniques for handling claims.
- Training & Development - To provide overall leadership for the technical development of Casualty claims staff, the monitoring of technical competency and ensuring the need for technical succession is fulfilled. Promoting professional qualifications. Arranging and participating in technical training for the wider Company, Group, key partners, and key customers through the claim’s faculty.
- Audit - Manage a proactive audit and evaluation programme to ensure that cost targets and service outcomes are achieved across the teams.
- Financial authority – to set the strategy for and to monitor all financial authorities within the claims teams to ensure the right people are handling claims at the right level.
- Fraud – to design, develop and implement our fraud claims handling strategy, to ensure we continually improve our capability and meet our agreed targets.
- Claims as a Financial Portfolio – responsibility for claims portfolio management, working closely with the performance analyst and actuaries for the purposes of claims planning, and identifying leading and lagging indicators for action and communication to a wider internal audiences.
- Reinsurance – developing close relationships with our reinsurance team and reinsurers providing insight and confidence in our claim’s operation.
- Suppliers – drive strong relationships across the supply chain, ensuring regular and timely feedback on performance and working with the Claims Supply Chain manager to maximise the value and output from these relationships.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- ACII / FCII Qualified with significant Claims experience.
- Strong negotiation skills – both verbal and written.
- A proven track record of developing Claims strategies in Casualty with a history of delivering measurable value.
- Proven strong influencing and stakeholder skills.
- Proven track record of managing catastrophic losses, ensuring all cases managed by the team are adequately reserved at all times and appropriate settlement strategies are adopted.
- A detailed knowledge of abuse claim handling techniques, leading our team of abuse claim handlers, ensuring adherence to our guiding principles and providing thought leadership in this area to internal stakeholders.
