About the role
Ecclesiastical Insurance Canada, who are proudly part of Benefact Group, are looking for a Senior Underwriter, Programs to join our team in our Toronto office.
As a Senior Underwriter, Programs, you will be responsible for evaluating, pricing, and managing underwriting strategies for delegated authority and program business. You’ll work closely with program administrators, MGAs, and internal stakeholders to ensure profitable growth and compliance with underwriting guidelines.

Key responsibilities
- Underwrite and manage a portfolio of program business across various lines.
- Analyze program performance, loss trends, and underwriting results to inform decision-making.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and compliance teams to assess and monitor program profitability.
- Conduct due diligence on new program opportunities and participate in onboarding processes.
- Maintain strong relationships with program partners and provide guidance on underwriting best practices.
- Contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines, tools, and training materials.
Knowledge, skills, and experience
- A University degree, advanced insurance-related certifications like CIP or equivalent.
- Minimum of 7 – 10 years' progressive experience in commercial underwriting, with at least 3 years in program or delegated authority underwriting.
- Strong analytical and technical underwriting skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship management abilities.
- Experience working with MGAs, TPAs, or program administrators preferred.
- Proficiency in underwriting platforms and data analysis tools.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and effective time management skills.
- Strong negotiation skills, adaptability to changing market conditions and underwriting guidelines, and ability to handle multiple underwriting files simultaneously.
- Help to coach and mentor Underwriters and Underwriting Associates
- Maintain continuous learning and professional development.
- High ethical standards, adherence to industry regulations and guidelines, and the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
