About the role
Ecclesiastical Insurance, who are proudly part of Benefact Group, are looking for two Underwriting Performance Consultants to join our Team.
Please note we are flexible on location as there is minimal need to be in our Gloucester office.
As Underwriting Performance Consultant you will manage and improve our underwriting capability through training, underwriting tools, resources, and governance. To ensure underwriting quality is delivered in line with the company’s underwriting philosophy and strategy.

Key responsibilities
- Manage the planning, rollout of, and engagement with the UKGI technical underwriting training programme, securing appropriate trainers and govern the quality and approach of the training to ensure it meets agreed standards. Ensure training is targeted to the business needs through training gap analysis, feedback and other requirements such are changes in regulation, market conditions, new products etc. undertaking and supporting training where appropriate
- Manage, continuously improve and promote the Underwriting Academy to maintain and improve the quality of the content and uptake by underwriters. Work with underwriting managers across the UK business to maximise the learning opportunities available and ensure understanding of the academy framework
- Manage and continuously improve the annual UK underwriting audit programme, ensuring frequency and quality standards for underwriting self-audits are met, and other planned audits are delivered on time and produce actions that improve underwriting standards. Reporting on progress against plan, communicating and liaising with all key stakeholders
- Undertake Audits of the UK underwriting business areas, brokers with delegated authority and hotspot topic audits
- Manage the underwriting referral log, including regular analysis to identify trends and needs, linking to the technical training programme and audit plan to raise underwriter’s competency and reduce referral volumes.
- Manage the Underwriting Hub (underwriting guides) structure and functionality liaising with key technical experts to ensure the content is clear and up to date for underwriters
- Develop and manage underwriting process governance to create consistency in processes across the different underwriting areas.
- Develop and manage a range of data quality tools to maximise opportunities for data driven quality and governance
- Proactively use all the work undertaken in the underwriting performance team to continuously improve underwriting capability
- Research and maintain an awareness of market conditions, practice and legislation and liaise with class of business teams to identify future training needs and work with appropriate stakeholders to develop effective training solutions
- Lead or support defined pieces of work end to end within agreed timescales
- Support the Underwriting Performance Manager with their role objectives as needed
- Understand and operate within regulatory framework and identify and escalate any risks to the business
Knowledge, skills and experience
- ACII qualified or progression towards
- Experience of influencing senior stakeholders
- Proven ability to coach/train for enhanced performance of others
- Data analysis experience
- Significant experience within commercial underwriting
