About the role
The right candidate will deliver exceptional customer service acting as part of a large Existing Business Underwriting team, supporting Ecclesiastical’s “right first time” approach to customer service. The candidate must be organised, work well as part of a wider team and being able to adapt quickly to changes in our ever evolving and growing company. The underwriter will be responsible for managing a caseload of varying level of cases that involve property and casualty covers. There will be a need for the individual to converse confidently and professionally with brokers and clients and build relationships whilst promoting our ecclesiastical brand.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, negotiate and profitably underwrite existing business within own authority and in line with Ecclesiastical strategy
- Support Senior Underwriters on Key Accounts.
- Plan, prioritise and manage individual own work to deliver agreed objectives and meet SLAs to deliver exceptional customer service.
- Use the appropriate method of communication (telephone, face to face) to support Ecclesiastical’s right first time approach in order to maintain successful Internal and External relationships.
- Act on individual audit results and agreed action plans within agreed deadlines to improve own performance
- Understand and operate within regulatory framework and identify and escalate any risks to the business.
- Identify complaints and act upon them in line with company policy.
- Actively expand personal technical and niche knowledge both informally (networking internally and externally, internet, industry press) and formally (In-house training, CII, CPD)
- Supporting other members of staff in times of need by offering help and support.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Ability to adapt to and embrace change in a growing company
- Ability to manage and prioritise workloads to a high standard and work well under pressure
- Ability to use Excel to an intermediate level
- A high level of attention to detail
- Professional and confident verbal and written communication skills
- A proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service
- Experience within the insurance industry is essential, previous exposure to and understanding of Underwriting either within an MGA, Broker or Insurer.
- Willingness to attend Broker/client meetings and events whilst promoting our appetite and brand.
- Have a real “team player” mentality and lead by example
