About the role
Within the first line of defence, to advise the leadership UKGI leadership team on governance, legal and regulatory duties; to oversee the governance framework and lead practical action where needed.
Key responsibilities
- Provide deep subject matter expertise about the legal and regulatory universe in which UKGI operates
- Provide clear and practical explanation, advice and guidance, which takes account of regulator priorities and real life experience of regulator interactions
- Drive, manage and report on implementation progress within UKGI
- Provide assurance and reporting to the UKGI Leadership Team on compliance and conduct
- Contribute towards ensuring that all colleagues in UKGI remain sufficiently informed of their corporate and individual regulatory obligations
- Liaise closely with Group Risk and Compliance colleagues on UKGI matters to ensure mutual effectiveness
- Administer the SBU’s local adherence to Group governance framework and policy framework, advising on key design decisions and guiding the implementation approach
- Maintain the SBU’s GI Authority and Decision-Making Process ensuring alignment with Group and other linked policies
- Advise committees on escalation and oversee operation of committees for consistency (assisting with self-evaluation of effectiveness)
- Actively check adherence to the decision-making authority limits in UKGI
- Guide local interpretation and application of Group policies
- Maintain SBU policy framework ensuring alignment with Group policies
- Assist and coordinate local policy owners in maintaining and overseeing policies and adherence
- Input into control assurance including both ongoing and annual processes
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Proven experience in a role engaged in a legal and regulatory environment that involved translating rules and principles into practical advice taking in to account regulator priorities
- Willingness to lead action hands-on with colleagues as opposed to advising only
- Proven competence in general insurance in the UK
- Proven experience of influencing stakeholders at all levels
- Business writing and preparing regulatory reports
- Legal, compliance or secretarial professional qualification advantageous
