About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing team at Ecclesiastical. The Schemes Department at Ecclesiastical underwrites a broad range of commercial schemes, providing delegated authority to our broker partners. With a risk appetite that is wider than Ecclesiastical’s standard niche offering you could be involved with schemes that cater for nurseries, holiday homes or even farms.
The successful applicant will be part of the underwriting team. Our broker partners already hold a degree of delegated authority so you will act as a referral point for them on the more complex and unique risks. In a varied role the underwriting team are also involved with auditing brokers and building relationships for profitable, strong and long lasting schemes.
We are looking for an applicant who as a minimum has a strong commercial underwriting background and the drive to learn the aspects of the role that are new to them.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, negotiate and profitably underwrite new/existing business within own authority and in line with Ecclesiastical strategy.
- Act as a referral point for broker partners who hold delegated underwriting authority for Commercial insurance ranging from property owners, commercial package through to charities, clubs, trades and the like
- Develop rapport with select panel of broker partners
- Plan, prioritise and manage individual own work to deliver agreed objectives and meet SLA’s to deliver exceptional customer service.
- Use the appropriate method of communication (telephone, face to face) to maintain successful Internal and External relationships.
- Act on individual audit results and agreed action plans within agreed deadlines to improve own performance.
- Undertake underwriting audits of delegated authority holders
- Understand and operate within regulatory framework and identify and escalate any risks to the business.
- Identify complaints and act upon them in line with company policy.
- Actively expand personal technical and niche knowledge both informally (networking internally and externally, internet, industry press) and formally (In-house training, CII, CPD).
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Minimum of 5 GCSE’s including Maths and English at grade C or above or equivalent
- Qualified Cert CII or commitment to work towards within an agreed timescale
- Strong Commercial Insurance Market, Industry and Company knowledge (Farming Insurance knowledge would be advantageous)
- Strong verbal communication skills
- A proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service
- Appropriate IT skills (may be tested)
